The Games We Play by Alyssa Martin Review

This is a super cute and steamy dual POV sports romance that combines basketball and baseball. Taylor, our FMC and college baseball star, relies on her best friend and basketball star, Todd, who is always looking out for Taylor in return. We get both POVS in this book. Taylor is also, essentially, the primary caregiver to her younger sister in lieu of her alcoholic mother. Todd is worried that Taylor is about to walk away from a possibly huge career move, and secretly brings in her brother Chase to make sure Taylor doesn’t turn down an opportunity she might regret.

In the course of this, Todd and Taylor get to talking and Todd discovers Taylor is completely inexperienced in the physical realm. So they decide to “practice”. The spicy scenes are heavy on the spice and well written. The tropes in this book are superfluous in the best way and all in all this is a fast read and sweet friends to lovers story between two college athletes at the end of their college career overcoming different life and sport obstacles.

I gave this 4 stars and not 5 because at times the timeline is a little confusing with the two POVs. Not everything is totally linear. Figuring out where it fit took me out of the story a little bit.

Thanks so much to Alyssa Martin and Love Notes PR for the ARC.
