Strange Bedfellows by Amanda Mortlock Review

Strange Bedfellows is one of my favorite types of novels in the whole wide world: one that doesn’t fit neatly into any one genre. It’s weird, yes, but also scary/thrilling, and romantic with lots of steam! The story is told in alternating perspective of Cleo (human woman) and Cat (cat version of Cleo) and then eventually we get the perspective of another character introduced in the story. Cleo transforms into her human self a couple times without meaning to in front of her owner who she’s already super infatuated with-Wes. Romance ensues! COMPLICATED ROMANCE, but at first Wes and Cleo are HOT AND HEAVY.

Over the book Cleo starts to get answers into who she is and how her existence came to be, as well as how she connects to Wes. That’s where the magic comes in as well as more of the overarching plot and story.

This book got me out of a real reading slump! I couldn’t put this one down once I started it. The momentum has carried into other books so THANK YOU AMANDA MORTLOCK.

This book captures the emotions of getting swept up in a whirlwind relationship—the kind where you think you invented love—and all the good and bad that comes with it.

There is a lot of magic but it reads much more contemporary than fantasy

and will appeal to lovers of “weird girl” lit, but not exclusively so! I think this has actually a pretty

broad appeal.
